Philippines Macaque Monkey Skull from Banaue Ifugao 2

Item Description:

Philippine Monkey Macaque (macaca fascicularis) Skull. Cleaned, Very nice dark patina. Medium in size, it measures ( 4.5" Length , 3" Tall, 2.5" Wide - widest area ) Their are 2 or 3 teeth missing (Please see pictures) with rattan band for hanging the skull.

This skull came from Ifugao which has been used for traditional ceremonies. Most of the Igorots "Codillerans" uses these skulls as home decorations ( Like the Human Skulls that adorned heir old houses - very rare today, most are renovated) and for traditional ceremonies.

Monkey skulls of this type would be found among the headhunting "Igorot" mountain tribes of Northern Luzon, Philippines: Apayao/Isnag, Abra/Tinguian, Kalinga, Gaddang, Applai, Mountain Province/Bontoc, Bago, I-lagod, Kankana-ey, Kankanai, Balangao, Ibaloi, Ifugao, Ikalahan, Kalanguya, Karao, and Ilongot. These Cordilleran's would use these skulls for personal and ritual adornment as well as in their traditional ceremonies. Similar skulls or tribal taxidermy are also found among the Dayak of Borneo and other Malay, Naga, Papua, Indian, Himalayan and Indonesian tribal / ethnic groups.
