Kalinga basket for sweer potatoes / vegetables "awit"


Philippines Kalinga Igorot basket for vegetables/sweet potatoes locally known as "awit". Kalinga women use a heavy basket for carrying bundles of newly harvested rice, root crops, coffee beans or vegetables. Unlike the Ibaloi and Ifugao baskets with forehead straps, this strapless basket is carried on top of the head. The thick braided hoop of heavy rattan encircling the basket provides added strength to its structure.
