1. Clothing and Effects

Kalinga

Winittawit – Kalingga skirt with tassels of shell. Used by upper class Kalingga.

Baag – Kalingga G-String

Paowekan – Kalingga earrings from Mother of pearl used only by women.

 

Ifugao

Ling-lingu – Ifugao necklace of brass worn by both sexes.

Giniling – Ifugao brass bracelet worn by girls.

Attae – Glass trade beads used among the Ifugao and Kalingga. The glass originated from Asia Minor brought in by Arab traders around the 12th Century.

Gut-Gutun Lubing – Ifugao bark cloth jacket. Used by both sexes.

Gut-Gutun Wanoh – Ifugao loin cloth of woven bark. Used by men.

Ambayug – Ifugao women’s hip bag.

Tinagguh- Ifugao loin cloth with tie and die middle section. Used by old men and for death clothes.

Wan-wannoh – Ifugao Loin cloth. Used by boys and young men.

Binnalit – Ifugao women’s skirt. Used by middle class women.

Hape – Ifugao bachelor’s blanket used by middle class men.

Bayya-ung – Ifugao skirt. Used by upper class women.

Binuhlan – Ifugao upper class G-string.

Lubung – Ifugao blouse with designs used by both sexes.

Pinangakkan – Ifugao glod neck ornament or charm.

Mayad – Ifugao women sash of cotton.

Pungot – Ifugao headdress. For upper class men only.

Ulo An Bayya-Ung – Ifugao blanket. For upper class men only.

Bokbok – Ifugao horn mortar and pestle for pulverizing betel nuts used by old  men and women who are toothless.

Padang – Ifugao brass leglet for men.

Binangnga – Ifugao brass pipe.

 

Bontoc

Wakis – G-string for men.

Olis Pinagawa – Bontoc blanket

Suklong Binayyu – Plain head basket, one for feathers.

Suklong – Bontoc head basket with wild boars canine teeth and features also decorated with red and yellow.

Duli – Snake back bone worn by Bontoc women to give easy birth and to prevent them from being struck by lightning.

Pinangpanga – Bontoc brass neck ornament also used as a good luck charm.

 

II Religious Objects:

Bangibang – Wooden clappers used at death.

Bulul – Granary idols, originally always in pairs and carved from narra wood. During the harvest of the owner which is once a year, the idols are brought down from the granary or from the dwelling house and placed under the house for the duration of the harvest season. Ifugao.

Kintib – Ceremonial box of the Ifugaos. Used in every religious ceremony that calls for a sacrificial animal.

Palipal – Religious object of split bamboo used in major ceremonies involving several pigs. It is used to beat time while the priests sing the Alim. Ifugao.

Pamahan – Wood bowl for rice wine during any ritual. Ifugao.

Ungut – Coconut wine cup with notch for each individual slip. Ifugao.

Beehang – Fern guardian image.

 

III Kitchen Utensils and Household Wares:

Hukup – Ifugao boiled rice basket. Members of the household all eat from this square basket.

Inadu – Ifugao rice spatula.

Pakko – Ifugao wood spoon. All carved handles.

Inattagang – Ifugao coconut shell spoon.

Bitangnge – Ifugao wood bowl with attached spice dish.

Duyu – Round Ifugao wood bowl with notched rim.

Dinallulu – Ifugao oval shaped wood bowl.

Punbanahan – Ifugao spice dish of wood.

Kinahhun Duyu – Ifugao animal shaped wood dish.

Panhuman – Sagada, Bontoc wooden meat containers.

Bulbuliwohwoh – Ifugao toy spindle.

Baowot – Ifugao boys playing top.

Tobayan – Ifugao wood spindle.

Upig Di Uttiman – Rattan basket container for husked un-matured rice. Ifugao.

Guhguh – Gourd (dried) shell for edible fresh water insects, snails, ants and fish. Ifugao.

Hulpakan – Ifugao fire piston.

 

IV Musical Instruments:

Kalelleng – Bontoc nose flute

Guyyud – Ifugao love harp of brass.

Bikkung – Ifugao bamboo love or Jews harp. Boy and girl talk through this during courtship in the Agamang or girls dormitory.

Gangha – Ifugao brass gongs. Used during major ceremonies and festivals. Handle of a human jaw.

Libbit – Ifugao dear skin drum, used in major religious ceremonies.

  

V. Arms & Weapons:

Gaman – Ifugao battle axe.

Ludit – Ifugao leaf shaped spear for battle.

Gayang – Ifugao upper class spear for battle.

Ginotma – Ifugao upper spear for battle.

Hanggap – Ifugao work bolo with ginuttu.

Ginuttu – Ifugao shell belt.

Kalasag – Kalingga shield.

Hinalung – Ifugao double edged knife.

Pattan – Ifugao walking stick with hinalung.

Hapiyu – Ifugao shield.

Kalasag – Bontoc shield.

Blabog – Game spear for hunting wild pigs and deer.

 

VI. Baskets and Traps:

Pasiking – Bontoc back basket of rattan.

Upig – Bontoc lunch basket.

Upig – Another type of Bontoc lunch basket, old and used.

Aggawin – Bontoc woman’s basket for snails and edible insects caught in the fields.

Bango – Ifugao back basket with rain proofing use for traveling and for hunting.

Gubu – Bamboo basket used as a fish trap by the Ifugaos in the rice paddies.

Ubih – Ifugao chicken basket.

Upigan – Ifugao rattan basket with shoulder strap for betel nut container.

Ubin Di Gangha – Ifugao rattan basket for brass gongs.

 

VII. Folk Art:

Tinagtaggu – Figure of seated man – loaned by Dr. E.D. Hester. Religious carving.
